Denkschrift zur Lage der Museen erschienen. Museen stellen sich der Diskussion um ihre Zukunftsfähigkeit
Die Entwicklung der deutschen Museen in den vergangen 40 Jahren ist eine Erfolgsgeschichte mit zahlreichen neuen Museumsbauten und Museumsgründungen, bedeutenden Ausstellungen, Besucherrekorden und enormer Aufmerksamkeit in der Öffentlichkeit und den Medien. Dennoch geraten die Museen gerade vor dem Hintergrund knapper öffentlicher Kassen zunehmend in Legitimationsdebatten.

The Papyrus Collection presents 6,000 documents from ancient Egypt in an online database
As a part of its digitalisation project, the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection of the National Museums in Berlin will make 6,000 texts available in an online database by autumn 2013. The project is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

The Berlin Semantic Web Group: Wikidata - A new platform for collaborative data collection
In 2012 Wikimedia starts to build a new platform for the collaborative acquisition and maintenance of structured data: Wikidata. The Department for Information and Communication Technology of the National Museums in Berlin proudly hosts this meeting in Berlin to perpetuate its commitment for the subject.

Symposium on the Berlin sculpture find, 15-16 March 2012
In January 2010 the first of several sculptures were unearthed in front of the Rotes Rathaus near Alexanderplatz in Berlin. Experts were able to identify the sculptures and revealed that they belonged to the many works confiscated by the Nazis as part of their 'Degenerate Art' campaign. The latest research findings on each object will be presented during this scholarly colloquium. The symposium will end with a podium discussion on the wider significance and implications of the Berlin find.
